This poem is a conversation the speaker is having with the divine. It begins with the blessed names of Allah, ‘Ya Rahim, Ya Kareem’, as a form of plea.
Allah is the most merciful and the most generous and through this, the speaker is calling out for these attributes of Allah with the hope that they will be granted that mercy.
The speaker is showing a form of reflection, upon their state. They ‘turn’ to Allah with mistakes and this realisation establishes their connection with the divine.
As the poem progresses, the speaker pleads to Allah for purity, for cleanliness from his sins and the mistakes they have made.
The significance in this form of purity is that the speaker asks for the purity of the heart, which results in striving to please only Allah and His Rasool علیھ الله صلي.وسلم
The final stance of the poem is particularly significant as the speaker is further expressing their love for Allah and through this love, they make their final plea.
Asking for protection from the two types of evil, the inner and outer. ‘Veil me from evil eyes’ around them and at the same time, make them free from their own disguises within their heart.
